Poem by Rabindranath Tagore

Few days back, I was searching a poem of Rabindranath Tagore which I read when I was in class 8. I searched the net but I couldn't find. Finally my fren Diksung brought her brother's book to me. The poem goes like this:

from PAPER BOATS

Day by day I float my paper boats one by one
down the running stream.
In big black letters I write my name on them
and the name of the village where I live.
I hope that someone in some strange land
will find them and know who I am.
I load my little boats with shiuli flowers from
our garden, and hope that these blooms of the
dawn will be carried safely to land in the night.
The two things that I like about this poem are
The writer wants to show that he won't be a simple man in his life . He wants his name and his village name known to unknown people .
Shiuli flowers are those flowers that bloom at dawn and the poet believes that these flowers brings the morning to those land which are still in the night.

Note: Shiuli flower is called as Parijaat in Nepali and Shiuli is a bengali name for Parijaat.

  2. Thank you Arati. I don't know how you feel about the United States in your country, but I believe this is what motivates us to do many of the things we do. To bring dawn's light to nations still covered in darkness. As my ancestors have said on many occasions. "Let freedom reign!"
May peace be found and may it cover the whole earth that war may be done away. This is my prayer.

  3. The following excerpt from this poem portrays strong emotions into my mind.

"Day by day I float my paper boats one by one down the running stream."

"hope that these blooms of the
dawn will be carried safely to land in the night."

And I liked what Scott S. commented here in your post.

    with warm regards,
    Dibyendra
